Bio
Alex Yanes
“These days, my artistic inspiration comes from my environment, fatherhood, life’s twists and turns, subcultures, and the thrill of creating something out of nothing.” – Alex Yanes
Born and raised in Miami, Alex Yanes is a product of the city’s energy — fast-paced, colorful, and constantly evolving. Despite his growing recognition in the art world, Yanes remains grounded, approachable, and focused on the work itself. His pieces speak louder than words: vibrant, layered, and full of character.
Since committing to his art full-time in 2006, Yanes has turned his personal story into a visual language. Influenced by his Cuban heritage and the cultural explosion of Miami in the ’80s and ’90s, his work draws deeply from skate, tattoo, hip-hop, and rock scenes. His creative spirit sparked early — he won his first art contest at age six and built his first treehouse at ten, using skills passed down from his father and grandfather.
Today, Yanes works from his Miami studio, balancing art-making with fatherhood. His practice has evolved beyond the canvas into immersive, three-dimensional installations using wood, PVC, acrylic, resin, and enamel. Each piece is handcrafted and meticulously layered, inviting viewers into a world that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly original.
His signature style has attracted a wide range of collectors — from individual enthusiasts to major brands and institutions. Yanes has collaborated with Disney, Nike, Red Bull, Virgin, Spotify, Vans, Kidrobot, UsTwo Games, Sherwin-Williams, Delta Airlines, Coca-Cola, and Rag & Bone. His work is part of the permanent collections of the Long Beach Museum of Art, New York Public Art for Public Schools, City of Miami Public Art, Fidelity Investments, and Capital One.
Giving back is a core part of Yanes’ mission. Deeply connected to his hometown, he regularly partners with local and national foundations to inspire young artists and bring creativity to underserved communities. He’s collaborated with organizations including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Dan Marino Foundation, The Wounded Warrior Project, Miami Children’s Museum, NBA Cares, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, and The Children’s Trust.
Whether whimsical or introspective, Yanes’ work strikes a balance between playfulness and precision. His installations and murals have become a staple of Miami’s Wynwood art district and have been exhibited in galleries and museums across Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Detroit, Philadelphia, London, Paris, Berlin, Australia, and Japan.
